2020 was declared as the cross-year of Russia and Kyrgyzstan. HSE Perm and the educational center of the Ministry of Finance of the Kyrgyz Republic has already organized and conducted several large events. HSE - Perm's preparatory programme in Russian as a Foreign Language has admitted a new cohort of students. The supplemental programme helps foreign students who intend to apply to Russian universities gain proficiency in Russian. Students study grammar, phonetics, reading, speaking, and writing over the course of their studies. The new cohort is the fourth group of students to join the programme in what is now the programme's third admissions season.
Starting October 26, 2020, lectures at all HSE University campuses will be held online. At the same time, the University’s buildings remain open to students and staff. Seminars will mostly remain offline. However, it is possible that some will also be transferred online.

For the second year in a row, a team representing Brazil won the team-level gold medal of the International Economics Olympiad. Silver was taken by Indonesia’s team, while Russia’s team took bronze. In the assessment of individual participants, Russian participants won three gold medals and two bronze medals.

Any student or 2020 graduate of a Russian or international university is eligible to take part in the Student Research Paper Competition. Papers can be submitted from September 1 to October 15. The competition has been held at HSE University since 2003.
This year for the first time in HSE history, the graduation ceremony will take place at one time for all four HSE campuses. Almost 11,000 students from Moscow, St. Petersburg, Nizhny Novgorod, and Perm will gather online to bid the university farewell and celebrate the next chapter in their lives.
