HSE Perm Undergrad Makes it into Top-15 in International Paper Competition

Aleksei Chmykhov, a senior in HSE Perm’s undergraduate Economics programme, has been selected as a finalist in the international New Economic Talent 2015 paper competition organised by the Czech Republic’s Center for Economic Research and Graduate Education - Economics Institute (CERGE-EI).

The New Economic Talent competition is open to current bachelor’s and master’s students, or bachelor’s and master’s graduates (up to two years after graduation), from any field, who are interested in contemporary economic issues. This year's competition received 138 entries by students from 94 universities in 55 countries. HSE Perm's Alexei Chmykhov was the only participant from Russia, and his paper Football Sponsor: Fan or Businessman? made it into the top 15 selected by the competition's evaluation committee.

'When I submitted my paper to the competition, I honestly didn’t expect very good results. The level of the papers is very high, and there is strong competition among students from all over the world. This was also my first time participating in the competition. Making it into the top 15 is a kind of intermediate achievement in my academic career over the last three years. I’m very thankful to my supervisors Iuliia Naidenova and Petr Parshakov.
