HSE Perm's Intensive 'Russian as a Foreign Language' Programme Now Accepting Applications
HSE Perm is pleased to now offer a 'Russian as a Foreign Language' programme for international students. The 'Russian as a Foreign Language' programme is designed to prepare international students for studies at Russian universities. In the programme, students gain proficiency in Russian grammar, listening, reading, writing, and speaking.
The new programme's first admissions campaign, organized by the HSE Perm International Office, drew more than 30 applicants. The programme received applications from Algeria, Bangladesh, Vietnam, Gabon, Egypt, Zimbabwe, India, Iran, Cameroon, China, Morocco, Mongolia, Nigeria, Syria, Sudan, and Turkey. However, only 7 applicants gained admission to the programme - the programme's first cohort includes students from Turkey, India, Sudan, Egypt, and Nigeria.
The staff of the HSE Perm International Office organized and conducted an orientation meeting, where they introduced newcomers to the intricacies of the educational process, visa support, and medical assistance. They also spoke in detail about the many services available to foreign students studying at the Higher School of Economics in Perm.
The group of students will take intensive Russian language courses until the end of July 2020. In addition, students of the programme will have the opportunity to undergo training in specialized general subjects, such as mathematics and history, which are part of the entrance tests for admission to undergraduate studies.
Now all students are united by a great desire to study the Russian language, get acquainted with the Higher School of Economics, adapt to life in Russia, and make new friends. The training is conducted by Olga Koroleva, a teacher at the Faculty of Pre-University Training. Students of the programme attend all classes, as well as take part in extracurricular activities.
We are very impressed by this cohort. Each student is unique. One student plays guitar in his own musical group, while another one is an expert in the Theory of Relativity and teaches at the Department of Physics at Cairo University.
I would like to thank the Buddy Club and the Students and Alumni Centre, who met with the students and helped them adapt to life in both the HSE dorms and the city of Perm. We try to help foreign students feel confident in the Russian-speaking environment.
We would like to give special thanks to the staff of the Faculty of Pre-University Training, which organizes the international student curriculum. We enjoy working with them.
We look forward to hearing from our students again in the future as applicants for HSE Perm's undergraduate and graduate programmes next year.
