Course Syllabus

Abstract

The discipline introduces students to the basics of economic analysis of law, developing skills in applying microeconomic and institutional theory tools to assess the impact of legal norms on the behavior of economic agents. The discipline covers the use of methods of economic analysis of law for drafting regulatory legal acts.

Learning Objectives

• The objectives of the discipline “Economic Analysis of Law” are the following: • to introduce students to the basics of economic analysis of law, show them how legal norms affect people’s behaviour, and develop the skills in analysing legal doctrines and norms using the tools of institutional economics and microeconomic theory; • to prepare students for conducting analytical research; • to show how methods of economic analysis of law are used in drafting regulatory legal acts.

Expected Learning Outcomes

• know the key concepts and theories of economy of law, as well as the methods of economic analysis of legal doctrines and norms
• be able to apply the categories and methods of economy of law when analysing specific legal issues
• have skills to independently conduct economic analysis of legal norms
