‘I Can't Wait to Learn and to Meet Great People at HSE University’
International students are beginning to arrive at HSE University for the new academic year. Among them are students from Indonesia. Some of them even had a chance to take their parents on a tour of the campus. How does one become an HSE University student? What do the university’s venues have to offer? What is it like to live in Moscow? The new arrivals shared their first impressions with the HSE News Service.
For many years, HSE University has welcomed students from Indonesia, the largest archipelago country in the world with a population of more than 270 million people. Recently, HSE University has expanded its cooperation with leading Indonesian educational and research institutions. The agreements include joint courses and mobility programmes for students and teachers.
Tontowi Adila Ulfia Maula, Indonesia, newly enrolled bachelor’s student of Foreign Languages and Intercultural Communication, School of Foreign Languages
I first learned about HSE University from my mom's friend, who shared the link to the HSE Global Scholarship Competition. That was how I finally got admitted to HSE University.
I have always been interested in learning more languages, since I think languages are an integral part of our lives.
I believe that the foreign languages programme at HSE University, with its good internships and exchange programmes, offers good career prospects
The admission process was quite simple. After getting the acceptance email, I just needed to arrange all the required documents (passport, medical check-up, high school diploma, etc) and send them to the HSE email address. The one thing I worried about during admission was the lack of information during the months before my official admission to the Prep Year, but overall, the admission process was not so complicated.
I really like living in Moscow! I love how peaceful Moscow is and how the city is organised. Living costs for a student under the quota are not so high if we manage our money properly. I am looking forward to living in Moscow for another four years.
I like to crochet. There are a lot of parks here, and I like to go out in early evenings to sit and enjoy the evening outside while crocheting
I hope I can make the most out of my time in Moscow and gain useful skills, experiences, and friends.
My mom had a chance to visit the Pokrovka building and liked it a lot.
Zahrotur Riyad, mother of Maula, newly enrolled bachelor’s student at HSE University
HSE University is a prominent and high-ranking university in terms of quality. Pokrovka looks glamorous and feels silent in a quiet, peaceful way.
Faiz Arsyad, Indonesia, newly enrolled master’s student of Agrarian Economics, Faculty of Economic Sciences
I work as an expert in the Indonesian Parliament and an international journalist. I write articles and create videos related to my work. In 2020 and 2021, I managed to earn eight gold medals in international innovation competitions. I was selected to attend the Presidential Staff School of the Republic of Indonesia and I’m the founder of the Indonesian Youth Movement organisation, which carries out programmes in the social, educational, economic, agriculture, and other fields.
In 2021, I completed my Bachelor’s in Agrarian Economics at Brawijaya University, one of the top 10 universities in Indonesia. After completing my bachelor’s education, I decided to continue my master's education abroad. I was offered scholarships from the Norwegian Business School, Üskudar University, Al-Azhar University, and HSE University. In the end, I chose HSE University because I know that it has the best campus in Russia and the world.
I am now in Russia and live in Dormitory 7, which is a very comfortable place to live. It has Wi-Fi, a gym, a kitchen, a bathroom, and a study room. It is easy to get to transportation, parks and supermarkets from the dormitory.
I live with other international students from various countries such as Brazil, Guatemala, Vietnam, Tajikistan, Italy, and others. Everyone is very friendly and supportive
After completing the various documents required as a new international student and seeing the university, I think that HSE University is a very good and modern university. The study room, library, discussion room, student centre and canteen are also very good. There is good access to transportation and the scenery is beautiful.
The use of technology at HSE University is advanced and all systems are well integrated, which makes everything easy. I think HSE University is ready for the Society 5.0 era
The dean, professors, lecturers, International Office, administrators and everyone else who works here are kind and helpful.
I am currently preparing to study in the first year of the Agrarian Economics programme at the HSE University Faculty of Economic Sciences I have a dream to become a minister and President of the Republic of Indonesia. I believe that the knowledge and experience I gain from HSE University will help me to achieve my dreams. Next week, I will meet a professor and in two weeks, I will attend math camp to improve my knowledge in the field of economics. I can't wait to learn and to meet great people at HSE University!
