Record Number of Prospective Students Apply to HSE University
HSE University Rector Nikita Anisimov summed up the interim results of the admission campaign for undergraduate programmes in 2022. According to data announced at the meeting of the HSE Admissions Committee, 26,455 prospective students applied to programmes across all university campuses. This is almost 1% more than last year, when 26,257 people applied to HSE University.
Total Number of Applicants
The data provided on admissions in 2022 is not yet final, since admissions for the online programmes ‘Computing and Data Science’ (Moscow), ‘Economic Analysis’ (Moscow), ‘Digital Platforms and Logistics’ (St Petersburg) and ‘Design’ (Perm) are open until August 15.
The most popular programmes among prospective students were ‘Marketing and Market Analytics’ (almost 97 applicants per place) and ‘Strategy and Production in Communications’ (almost 94 people per place).
As always, competition for the programmes ‘Applied Mathematics and Information Science’, ‘Economics’, ‘Business Administration’, ‘Advertising and Public Relations’, ‘Foreign Languages and Intercultural Communication’, ‘Design’ and others was intense.
There was a significant increase in the number of applicants from Russia’s regions compared to last year: by 23.5% at HSE University in St Petersburg, 36.6% in Perm, and 67.3% in Nizhny Novgorod. At the same time, there was a decrease in the number of applicants in Moscow, which was compensated by their increase in the other campuses. This illustrates the effectiveness of the concept of ‘Four campuses—one university’.
State-funded and Fee-paying Tuition
In 2022, 3,803 state-funded places are available for bachelor's programmes in all campuses. Additional places will be allocated for those in the ‘green wave’ and participants of the ‘Social Lift’ programme (up to 249 places).
5,635 fee-paying places are available for HSE undergraduate programmes. For some programmes, the number of fee-paying places might be increased, so the terms for concluding contracts will be extended.
Olympiad Winners and Record Holders
HSE University remains one of the priority universities for the admission of talented students. The number of prospective students who applied for programmes without entrance tests this year is 1,352 applicants, 388 of whom are winners and certificate holders of the final round of the All-Russian Olympiad of School Students.
The following programmes were the most popular among the winners of the All-Russian Olympiad of School Students: ‘Applied Mathematics and Information Science’, ‘Economics’, ‘World Economy’, ‘International Relations’, ‘Foreign Languages and Intercultural Communication’, ‘Fundamental and Computational Linguistics’.
In addition to the Olympiad winners, a large number of ‘record-breaking’ applicants (who achieved the maximum score in the Unified State Exam) have applied to HSE University programmes.
Nikita Anisimov, HSE University Rector
‘This year, eight people who scored 300 points on three Unified State Exams applied for admission to our campuses in Moscow and St Petersburg. This is a special category of students, stars of a kind who are followed by their whole city or region. This is a great responsibility for us. A lot depends on how they build their trajectory. They can return to their cities and successfully develop their regions in the future. In addition, more than 140 applicants who scored 200 points on the Unified State Exam in two subjects chose our university. These applicants are also highly motivated and talented. We will pay special attention to such students and develop their talents.’
Admissions to HSE’s bachelor's and master’s programmes are now open. International students can apply online. Submit your application early to qualify for a full-tuition scholarship.
