Internship at the University of Essex (England)

The summer of 2012 saw completion of validation of the joint Master's program «Business Strategy in a Global Environment" by HSE-Perm and the University of Essex, UK. The fact that the universities will supervise theses jointly makes the Program unique.  Upon successful completion of the program in both the HSE-Perm and the University of Essex, students will obtain two diplomas.

The summer of 2012 saw completion of validation of the joint Master's program «Business Strategy in a Global Environment" by HSE-Perm and the University of Essex, UK. The fact that the universities will supervise theses jointly makes the Program unique.  Upon successful completion of the program in both the HSE-Perm and the University of Essex, students will obtain two diplomas.

The first students begin their studies under this program in January 2013. Future Masters are supposed to gain the required knowledge and skills and carry out research projects during both the winter semester in Perm, and the fall semester in Essex. 

In order to develop the Master’s Program, Perm campus’ faculty undertook an internship at the University of Essex. Elena V. Shadrina, the Program Coordinator and Associate Professor of the Public Administration Department, and Dmitry V. Vinogradov, Professor of the University of Essex, organized the Internship. The delegation was made up of HSE- Perm faculty members responsible for the Russian part of the joint program: Mrs. Elena A. Shakina, Mrs. Irina N. Shafranskaya, Ms. Maria A. Molodchik, Ms. Svetlana Suslova, and Ms. Julia O. Papushina.

The main purpose of the visit was to coordinate the curriculum content made up of disciplines forming the basic and optional parts of the Master’s Program.  The visit included meetings with colleagues from the University of Essex: Professor Jay Mitra, Dr. Svetlana Warhurst, Dr. Manuela Nocker, Professor Vania Sena, Dr.Sena Ozdemir, Dr. Shu-Jung Sunny Yang, Dr. Marjana  Johansson,Dr. Kathleen Riach, and Dr. Vivekanand Nawosah. The faculty members attended lectures and workshops on the courses included in the joint program. Also the form of examinations and Master’s thesis supervision was discussed. The University of Essex Administration confirmed its readiness to provide full support to Russian students in England. Lessons will be conducted in Southend which has a comfortable hostel with 700 seats. Senior students and Administration representatives provide support to newly arrived students. There are many services at Essex that help students find a job.

Overall, the internship allowed the participants to discuss and agree on the content and timeframe of interaction between the faculty members of Perm campus and the University of Essex’, the purpose of which was to improve the quality of Master's program «Business Strategy in a Global Environment».
