Tatyana Utkina Spoke at Writing Symposium in Göttingen
The 5th Writing Symposium took place on April 5-6 in Göttingen (Germany). It was dedicated to integrating multilingual writing in international universities.
HSE-Perm was represented by Tatyana Utkina, Associate Professor of the School of Foreign Languages, who presented her paper “The influence of economic competence on second language writing”.
The paper considered the special aspects of development of skills of foreign language writing in principal subjects. The audience recognized the applied significance of the study and supported the idea of necessity of taking into account cognitive and language competences of students when teaching them to write academic texts, especially when education is carried out in language which is not native for students.
The International Writing Symposium saw a vivid discussion on including academic writing in multilanguage and multicultural educational environment. During this discussion researchers and writing tutors from 14 countries exchanged the methods of writing research, effective educational strategies of writing intercultural communication in universities and the experience of work of academic writing centres.
The symposium features were fruitful interaction, openness and professional competence of the participants. Different aspects of teaching academic writing were considered, solutions of academic issues were suggested and the prospects of joint work in writing were outlined. The next 6th Writing Symposium will take place in Hannover (Germany) in 2019.
