On March 8-9, Iuliia Papushina, Associate Professor of the School of Management, took part in the interdisciplinary conference “The Body of Things: Gender, Material Culture and Design in (Post)Soviet Russia” which was organized by the University of Aarhus.
Aarhus is the second largest city of Denmark. Its university has 40 thousand students and 8 thousand faculty members and employees.
The conference saw participants from Denmark, France, Germany, Israel, Russia, Hungary and the USA. Many topics were discussed: gender-based discrimination in design, images of womanhood and masculinity created by modern designers, as well as soviet agitation posters and works of soviet sculptor Vera Mukhina. Special place among papers was held by corporal practices, once again related to womanhood and masculinity.
Iuliia Papushina presented her paper “Runway Collections and Competition in Soviet Fashion Market” which considers soviet fashion industry as market with respective competition. Iuliia complemented her work with historical facts about Perm Fashion House of the Ministry of Consumer Industry (PDMO).
