HSE-Perm Team Got Through to the Semi-final Round of the World Programming Championship ACM ICPC 2017

In the quarterfinal round “Urals Subregional Contest” which took place in Yekaterinburg the team was awarded a diploma and the right to participate in semi-final round of the World Programming Championship ACM ICPC 2017.

The quarterfinal round saw 85 strongest teams from 32 universities of the Ural region. Only 26 of them got through to the semi-final round, including HSE-Perm’s team.

In the quarterfinal the HSE-Perm was represented by 4 teams. The best result was reached by the team consisting of students of the Software Engineering educational programme: 2nd year students Aleksey Kokovin and Maksim Suntsev and 3rd year student Dmitriy Ketov. The team was awarded second class diploma because it was rated 12th in the summary table.

Our teams took part in all semi-finals starting from 2014. This year two participants from the strongest team graduated from the HSE, so the leader changed. However, the new young team showed a very good result in the quarterfinal and ensured the pass to the next round despite the high level of competition. Considering the fact that 363 teams in total took part in qualification, only one team from 14 had a chance to get through to the semi-final.
