HSE Olympiads Come to Vietnam
The delegation consisted of Dr. Olga Eremina, director of the Russian Language Center, Dr. Andrey Maksimov, department head and professor in the Department of Economic Theory and Econometrics in the Faculty of Economics at HSE Nizhny Novgorod, and Alina Ageeva and Maria Protasevich, managers in HSE’s international Admissions Office.
During the visit, the HSE delegation met with senior leaders at Hanoi International Vocational College, National Economics University (NEU), Academy of Policy and Development, Foreign Trade University (FTU), VNU HCMC University of Science, Ho Chi Minh City University of Education, and Saigon University. At the Academy of Policy and Development and VNU HCMC University of Science, Dr. Maksimov delivered a lecture titled "Econometric Modeling of the Solow’s Model of Balanced Growth". At the Ho Chi Minh City University of Education, Dr. Eremina delivered a lecture titled "Why Is a Chair Called a Chair, and Other Interesting Stories on the Origins of Words". The lecture was followed by a Q&A session and the students thanked Dr. Eremina for her presentation. Olympiad competitions were held at three schools, including the International School of Vietnam(ISV) and Trường THPT Quốc Oai. HSE staff tested students on their knowledge of Russian literature, history, geography, and culture, and awarded HSE souvenirs.
During the visit, it was apparent that there is strong demand in Vietnam for Russian education (both in English and in Russian) and great interest in creating long-term partnerships. Double-degree programmes and summer courses in Vietnam were discussed as possibilities in the near future.
This is HSE’s second visit to Vietnam in 2016. In April 2016, a HSE delegation met with the Vietnamese Ministry of Education and universities in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City over the course of a week. HSE will continue to build relationships with Vietnamese higher education institutions and organizations with the anticipation of increased cooperation in the coming years.
