Students of HSE – Perm Design Tasks for PERMM Museum Online Game

Students of HSE – Perm Design Tasks for PERMM Museum Online Game

The game, which brings together multiple museums, is dedicated to twentieth- and twenty-first-century art. Students created the game as part of the 'It's Time You Visited the Museum!' project, which won the XI Museums of the Russian North Grant Competition. Fourth-year history students Maxim Finogenov, Maria Karaeva, Vasily Kurushin, and Lev Yakupov visualized sample assignments as part of the Art Time project, which will become the basis of a future online game.

The online game is a new format in which the museum can interact with adults and children; the project will be implemented from March to September 2021. The project is supervised by Albina Korobkina, head of the PERMM museum tour department.

Cooperating with HSE - Perm is always a joy! Usually museum staff work on projects at their own pace, but when a student team is involved, we understand the enormous potential of museum content! We were lucky to work with the students Maria Karaeva, Maxim Finogenov, Vasily Kurushin, and Lev Yakupov. We are grateful to Dinara Gagarina and Iliana Ismakaeva.

Head of the PERMM museum tour department

In my opinion, this is a good example of how you can complement the visitor’s interaction with the museum. Many online projects offer this, and this is one of the excellent options. Thus, for example, the site becomes more interactive – between news and exhibition information, you can spend a minute playing an interesting game.

Winning the competition was a pleasant surprise for me. And the fact that it was fun and exciting to work on the project, since in many ways the implementation of ideas was based on creativity, resourcefulness, and unusual approaches, makes it even better.

I think this experience has become a kind of a combination of creative and technical components. It was necessary to take into account the peculiarities of design, genre, and platform, which are necessary for such projects. Now I know where to start and what to imagine when implementing an idea like this. This is relevant, since these day museums mostly interact with their audiences online.

I hope that our project will serve as a good source of entertainment for kids. We tried our best. I would like to highlight the work of my groupmates. It was pleasant to work with them, without them, nothing would have happened.

Vasily Kurushin,

4th-year student of 'History' Programme, project participant

The Art Time project was implemented as part of the Space of Participation programme of the Center for Digital Cultures and Media Literacy of HSE University with the support of the V. Potanin Foundation.
