HSE Among Top 40 in QS Young University Ranking

The Higher School of Economics ranked 38th in the QS ranking of young universities, up from 48th last year.

‘For HSE, moving up in the young university ranking is an important example of our university’s successful development. Rating parameters such as international reputation, number of citations, internationalisation, and academic recognition at the global level are all objective priorities for HSE. We share this with the best universities in the world; after all, our partners are also in the QS young university ranking, and this includes those in the top 100 of the overall global ranking,’ comments HSE Vice Rector Ivan Prostakov.

The ranking includes the best universities around the world that are younger than 50 years old. The criteria used to do this are the same as the general university ranking: academic reputation, faculty-student ratio, citations per faculty member, employer reputation, international faculty ratio, and international student ratio.

QS Research Director Ben Sowter had this to say of the latest ranking: ‘The excellence of these institutions belies the belief that rankings will only recognize older Anglosphere universities with centuries of reputation behind them, and provides a reminder to those veterans that ambitious upstarts are seeking – with increasing success – to disrupt established hierarchies.’

HSE has also ranked 84th on the Times Higher Education Young University Ranking.
