Anna Bykova Delivers Joint Research at University of Maryland
On February 23, Anna Bykova, Research Fellow of the International Laboratory of Intangible-driven Economy (ID Lab), presented joint research with Dennis Coates, on “Economic freedom and its influence on the performance of Russian companies”. The paper was presented at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County, US.
Anna started her speech with introduction of HSE-Perm and ID Lab. Then she presented the results of the research which analyzed the influence of a region’s institutional development (which is measured by the level of economic freedom) on the performance of Russian companies. She considered such indicators as return on assets, return on investments in capital assets and Tobin's Q ratio.
The findings showed that the level of economic freedom positively and statistically significantly influences all the indicators of companies’ performance, being an important driver of their development. The research was the result of merging of two large research projects – the analysis of conduct of Russian public companies, carried out at ID Lab and the research of economic freedom in Russian regions undertaken by Dennis Coates together with colleagues from the USA and Switzerland.
