HSE Becomes One of Seven Russian Universities to Place in THE BRICS & Emerging Economies Top-50
Higher School of Economics (HSE) has placed on the Times Higher Education Ranking for BRICS & Emerging Economies, taking 48th place out of 300 academic institutions.
Just three years ago, only two Russian universities (MSU and SPbU) placed in the Top-100 of the Times Higher Education (THE) BRICS & Emerging Economies University Rankings. Now, this ranking includes 10 Russian institutions.
Russian academic institutions face stiff competition from Chinese and Indian universities (with 52 and 27 institutions representing these countries in the ranking, respectively).
‘As such, Russian universities have much to do in order to maintain and improve their standing in the ranking,’ says HSE Director for Strategic Planning, Irina Karelina, adding: ‘This year, Russian universities involved in Project 5-100 performed well in global rankings, which is the logical outcome of system-wide changes in Russia’s leading academic institutions as part of state-supported programmes aimed at boosting their competitiveness. This is also the latest step for universities in achieving the objectives set by the Russian President’s directive with respect to Project 5-100.’
