Bachelor’s Students in Economics Defended Their Theses
Fourth-year students of the Programme in Economics have successfully defended their final qualifying works in English.
Five graduates presented their theses to the examination committee, which included the following members: Angel Barajas, Leading Research Fellow at the International Laboratory of Intangible-driven Economy, Professor at the University of Vigo (Spain); Dennis Coates, Professor at the University of Maryland; Elena Shakina, Head of the International Laboratory of Intangible-driven Economy; Mariya Molodchik, Associate Professor at the School of Economics and Finance and Andrey Emelyanov, Academic Supervisor of the Programme in Economics.
Svetlana Kuzmenkova presented her research project ‘Subscribers’ Mobility as a Potential Factor of Cellular Service Consumption’. In her work she concluded that mobility affects the behavior of mobile subscribers both in the evaluation of tariff plans and in assessing service consumption. Aleksei Chadov, Senior Lecturer at the School of Economics and Finance was the Project Academic Supervisor.
Dmitry Subbotin presented his project entitled: ‘The Impact of the Company’s Financial Performance on Top-Managers’ Reward’. Marina Zavertiaeva, Senior Lecturer at the School of Economics and Finance was the Project Academic Supervisor.
Maria Okuneva spoke on ‘The Effectiveness of Individual Targeting Through Smartphone Application in Retail: Evidence From Field Experiments’. The author found out that large discounts lead to an increase in store visits by 2-5%, and the most effective advertising is of goods already known to customers from past purchases. Dmitriy Potapov, Associate Professor at the School of Economics and Finance was the Project Academic Supervisor.
Denis Orlov presented his project ‘Estimating Sequels’ Efficiency in the Film Industry’. The author analyzed how sequels affect box-office results. Evgeniy Ozhegov, Senior Lecturer at the School of Economics and Finance was the Project Academic Supervisor.
Elizaveta Korovina delivered a presentation on ‘The Influence of High-Frequency Trading on Price Discovery on the Russian Stock Market’. Ilya Zakharov, Senior Lecturer at the School of Economics and Finance was the Project Academic Supervisor.
All the projects were praised by the committee and received the highest possible grades (10 and 9). Congratulations to the students and supervisors on the successful defense of their theses!
