Google Expert Speaks at Faculty of Business Informatics

Andrey Khlyzov, an expert from Google, who works in Madison (Wisconsin, USA), spoke to students of business informatics and software engineering.

Andrey Khlyzov told students about the nature of software development at Google. For example, special attention is paid to controlling the quality of the program code. The new code fragment developed by a programmer cannot be published on the server until it is reviewed by colleagues. Each developers’ team has a project manager – an IT specialist who is responsible for project management, work distribution, and project delivery to the commissioner. Since most of the software products developed by Google are actively used by other departments in the company, each team also includes a programmer on duty who is responsible for project support 24 hours a day. Each specialist in the company goes through an evaluation procedure twice a year, the result of which comes from self-evaluation, evaluation by colleagues and evaluation by the department manager.

Andrey Khlyzov gave a detailed description of the interview process during recruitment at Google, as well as the required knowledge and skills. In the end of the meeting, he answered some questions from students. They were mostly related to the specifics of work in a global company. In addition, Andrey offered students his help in compiling their CVs in order to apply for positions at Google.
