HSE Perm has hosted the second International Conference on Applied Research (iCare2). The conference drew Russian and international experts. Participants discussed theoretical models of economic processes, public-private partnership, intellectual capital, market development etc.

Dr. Dmitri Vinogradov, Programme Director and Lecturer at the University of Essex, UK, noted that the conference's acronym iCare could also be understood literally 'I care'. And indeed, participants had a heated discussion about the problems involved in ensuring public-private partnerships are economically effective, after keynote speaker Professor Graeme Hodge from Monash University, Australia, gave his presentation on the subject.

The session on issues related to public-private partnership was moderated by Associate Professor at the Department of Public Administration, and leader of the Research Section on Public-Private Partnership at HSE Perm Elena Shadrina.

A parallel session devoted to issues in theoretical modeling of economic processes was led by Senior Lecturer in the HSE Department of Theoretical Economics, Subdepartment of Microeconomic Analysis Danil Fedorovykh. Fedorovykh also gave a presentation on legalizing bribes (informal payments) and the potential impacts this could have.

The impact of intellectual capital on relations to the external environment for small businesses was reviewed by Professor Carlos Jardon, Professor of Econometrics at the University of Vigo, Spain. Associate Professor at the HSE Perm Department of Financial Management Maria Molodchik gave a presentation on the opposition between small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) and major companies (in terms of intellectual resources).

The section on intellectual capital was concluded by Head of the International Laboratory of Intangible-driven Economy at HSE Perm Elena Shakina, whose presentation outlined the results of research into intellectual resources as a means of increasing a company's influence.

An analysis of the markets, and issues relating to their equilibrium and distortion was discussed in parallel at a separate session moderated by HSE Theoretical Economics Department Associate Professor Roman Chuhay.
