A videoconference Let’s Talk Olympics was held at the HSE Perm. It was organized for students of the HSE and California University of Pennsylvania. The time difference between Russia and the USA didn’t bother the students, who met to discuss a topical subject — the Olympic Games. Students specializing in ‘Sociology of Sport’ and ‘History’ represented California University, which is commonly referred to as Cal U. As for the HSE, undergraduate and graduate students, as well as lecturers and professors, represented the HSE Perm campus. The participants discussed sports issues, Olympic highlights, the latest economic and cultural trends, and the current situation in both countries.
The students agreed that the discussion was fun and lively, despite some initial nervousness on both sides. Igor Stepanov, a second-year student in the HSE Faculty of Management, said that the American students asked a lot of questions about Russia, and that our students were really glad to share information about this country.
Vladimir Polibin, a first-year master’s student, was also impressed with the event. He noted that the videoconference was very interesting due to the fact that communication between the representatives of two different countries always gives you new information and always elicits within you new emotions and thoughts.
Tatyana Permyakova, Professor in the HSE Perm’s Department of Foreign Languages and conference organizer, commented that the event had proved to be effective and interesting, and that they would definitely continue cooperating with Cal U.
