Teaching

With the aim to implement educational standards, the instructors of the Department of Foreign Languages employ a competence-based approach to teaching and organize the process of foreign language instructions around the comprehensive development of the following competences: linguistic, sociocultural, strategic, and cognitive. To form and enhance these competences, communicative, functional, and traditional methods of differentiated learning are used, ensuring the most comfortable conditions for language learning, developing intercultural skills, and achieving both formal and individual goals within the chosen course of study.

The undergraduate foreign language curriculum includes the following components: General English, Business English, English for Specific Purposes, and Academic English. It is aimed at developing all types of language skills—reading, writing, speaking, and listening. Depending on the learning objectives, instructors select the form of instruction—classroom-based or online via the LMS system—as well as the learning formats: individual, pair, group, or independent work including presentations, case studies, role plays, business games, discussion of authentic films, writing letters and reports, self-assessment tasks, etc. The teaching system relies on continuous monitoring of each student’s progress.

The educational process is supported by appropriate teaching, methodological, and professional resources. Instructors continually improve their linguistic and methodological competencies through participation in training programs and seminars on educational technologies for teaching foreign languages in higher education. In addition, instructors regularly develop and update course materials.
