Course Syllabus

Abstract

This course focuses on the experiences of non-Russians peoples under the Soviet rule. The main purpose of the course is providing a history of the USSR the periphery. The course starts with a discussion of Revolution and Civil War and ends with an overview of late Soviet society in the periphery. Other themes to be discussed include Soviet nationalities policy, collectivization and famine, World War II, industrialization and modernization, multiethnic Soviet culture and so on. We will have eight lectures and eight seminars. Course readings will cover all parts of the Soviet Union.
