Course Syllabus

Abstract

This course introduces students to the concept of sustainable development. Students will be involved in the discussion of the most significant global economic, environmental and social problems, get acquainted with the process of forming the concept of sustainable development, global sustainable development goals, get a comprehensive understanding of the circular economy and its business models, get acquainted with domestic and foreign experience in their implementation, study examples of the formation of reports on sustainable development by leading Russian and foreign companies.

Learning Objectives

• Formation of an understanding of the need to move from traditional models of economic development to a sustainable type of development, the ability to take into account the role of environmental and social factors in management decisions making to ensure long-term life-sustaining development of society.

Expected Learning Outcomes

• Understands the concept of sustainable development, its evolution and content
• Understands the essence and interrelation of key global economic, social and environmental problems
• Understands the importance of the implementation and consistency of the Global Sustainable Development Goals
• Understands the features of circular economy business models and their advantages over linear economy models
• Has the skills to analyze the content of corporate reports in the field of sustainable development
• Has the skills to systematize and manage ESG risks in the context of sustainable development
• Has a holistic approach to management decision-making to ensure long-term sustainable development of society
