Аннотация

"Introduction to Linguistics" is a basic course laying the foundation of linguists' professional expertise. The discipline gives the basic knowledge of how languages evolve, how they are stuctured and what role they play in human society. Students develop the understanding of lexical, grammatical and syntactic structure of languages, raise awareness of practical implementations of linguistic knowledge in a variety of spheres of human life.

Цель освоения дисциплины

• The discipline aims to raise students' awareness of what linguistics is, what and how it studies. It prepares students for further in-depth study of other related subjects.

Планируемые результаты обучения

• be aware of to what extent our language influences our thinking
• define the basic terms of morphology and syntax
• discuss the different places where linguists work
• to define the basic terms of phonology and phonetics
• to determine what makes language human
• to differentiate between phonology and phonetics
• understand morphology and syntax
• understand what constitutes the meaning of a word
• understand what induces speech errors in the native tongue
