HSE Joins Top-100 of QS Master’s Ranking in 4 Areas of Business Education

For the second year in a row, the QS Ranking Agency has published its Business Masters Rankings. A total of three Russian universities appeared on this ranking (HSE University, St Petersburg State University, and Ural Federal University) in four areas of business education. Last year, only two Russian universities were on the ranking.

This year, HSE demonstrated the best results among Russian institutions and became the only one to appear in all four areas (last year, it was represented in two of them):

  • Management: HSE’s Master of International Business programme improved its result from last year by 15 positions, taking 82nd place among 135 programmes globally;
  • Business Analytics: the Big Data Systems programme joined the 51+ cohort among 75 programmes globally (last year, it was 35th among 45 programmes; this year, the competition was almost two times fiercer);
  • Finance: the Financial Economics programme appeared in the ranking for the first time, appearing 66th among 158 programmes;
  • Marketing: Marketing Communications and Advertising in Contemporary Business was also present in the ranking for the first time, taking a spot in the 51+ cohort among 70 programmes globally.

HSE’s strongest indicators are its alumni outcomes, diversity, and thought leadership.

The methodology of the Master’s Ranking differs considerably from that of institutional/subject QS rankings, even though it is mostly based on the same data.

The ranking is based on five indicators, each of which is evaluated from 1 to 100 points: alumni outcomes, diversity, employability, thought leadership, and value for money. The indicators are calculated from the following sources: data from universities, surveys of employers and academic experts, Scopus, lists of top executives (Forbes and over 150 similar lists), and the Mercer Cost of Living City Index.
