City of Perm

Perm is the most easterly city in Europe situated on the border of Europe and Asia. It is the administrative centre of the Perm region. About half of the industrial potential of the Perm region is concentrated in the city. Perm is located on the Kama river, the fifth largest river in Europe. More than 200 minor rivers flow into the Kama making it a major transport artery connecting the European part of Russia with Siberia. Perm residents – Permyaks – call their region Prikamye (which means the area surrounding the Kama) in recognition of the river's role in their region's development. 

The Perm Region has rich cultural traditions. There are different historically formed traditions, magnificent architectural monuments and other objects of cultural and historical heritage in Perm Krai. Moreover, Perm is the only city apart from Moscow and St. Petersburg where alongside with famous museums and theatres a Museum of Contemporary Art exists. Besides, there is the unique Museum of the History of Political Repression Perm-36 known popularly as the Gulag Museum.

Perm Walking Tours

Perm city has a well organized city tour routes, known as the "Green Line" and "Red Line", where you can just follow the green or red line drawn on the roads of the city, with information sign boards on all of the important buildings or sights of the city. Perm Academic Theatre 'Teatr – Teatr'

Within the “old” and “contemporary” history, the theatre has produced about 460 plays and many of them were awarded with Diplomas of All-Russian, All-Union and International festivals. Nowadays the repertoire includes classic plays, new Russian drama, musicals. The productions by theatre are in marked contrast to each other, therefore, everybody is sure to find something to his or her taste.

Perm Opera and Ballet Theatre

The Perm Tchaikovsky Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre is one of the oldest theatres in Russia. The Perm Opera and Ballet Theatre is the largest musical centre of the state for more than a century. It is a place for very important cultural events. Perm Opera and Ballet Theatre is also awarded with prestigious prize "Golden Mask".

Kungur Ice Cave

Kungur Ice Cave is a karst cave located in the Urals, near the town Kungur in Perm Krai, Russia, on the right bank of the Sylva River. The cave is famous for its ice formations and is a popular tourist landmark. The Kungur ice cave is located in the South-eastern region of Perm city, and it is approximately 90km away. It is easily accessible by train or by bus. It takes approximately 1.5 hours to reach Kungur from Perm.

The Hohlovka

At a distance of 45 kilometers from Perm, not far from Hohlovka village there is a quaint wooden settlement. It is the Perm ethnographic open-air museum. It is situated at a high cape and it is washed by the Kama reservoir. There are 19 monuments of wooden architecture of Perm Region on the square of 42 hectares. The buildings were built during the period from the end of the XVII to the beginning of the XX centuries. There are interiors and exhibitions in many houses.

Perm State Art Gallery

It is the largest public collection of old and contemporary Russian art as well as European. Eastern and antique woks of art. It possesses 40,000 items including icons, Oil paintings, sculptures, drawings, prints and objects of applied arts.

The museum of modern art “PERMM”

Except of the art task the museum carries out a special mission which is very important for the city al Perm Krai. Creating new cultural heritage which is able to become world one and its development is in the first place. Like wooden gods collected by Serebrennikov in the beginning of the XX century the collection of the Perm museum of modern art must to be invaluable symbolic assets of Perm.

The Perm Krai Museum

The Perm Krai Museum was founded in 1890 under the initiative of the Ural Society of devotees of natural history. Today it is the largest museum of Prikamye. It has about 600 thousand exhibits and more than 50 collections of regional, Russian and world significance.
