Education: More than Economics

HSE was created as an economics university, which is why the first faculties of the Perm campus trained largely economists and managers. But a contemporary economics education is based on interdisciplinarity. Breakthroughs and discoveries in education and research are taking place across various disciplines and sciences. Collaboration between departments of economics, engineering, and the humanities serve as the foundation for world-renowned universities such as MIT and Caltech. This is the route HSE chose.

Initially, the Faculty of Business Informatics was opened at HSE Perm with concentrations in business informatics and software engineering. A faculty for the social sciences and humanities was later opened offering history, political science, and jurisprudence.

Undergraduate Studies

HSE Perm undergraduate students can:

• Receive several scholarships at the same time for high grades and active participation in student life
• Participate in research conducted in various laboratories and groups
• Obtain an international certificate specifying English language proficiency
• Take part in international academic conferences alongside leading international scholars
• Become a paid teaching assistant
• Gain access to one of Russia's largest university libraries
• Spend up to two years taking advantage of inter-campus mobility by studying at one of the Higher School of Economics' three campuses in Moscow, St. Petersburg or Nizhny Novgorod
• Choose a minor that includes four interconnected disciplines
• Take on an active role in university life by joining a student council or club and by participating in seminars and conferences

Study Abroad and Dual Degrees

HSE Perm has a joint master’s programme with the University of Essex (Great Britain) called Business Strategies in a Global Environment. The programme is meant for students who want to study at the European level and receive two prestigious diplomas from two leading universities in Russia and Great Britain, something that is sure to open up additional career opportunities.
