Upon every entry to Russia you will be given a migration card usually distributed to passengers on incoming flights while passing through a passport control and available at arrival points in Russia.
Question: How do I complete a migration card?
Answer: Fill out two identical sections (A and Б) of the migration card. The card should be completed using an ink pen without blots or corrections in Russian or English block letters according to your travel document data. Indicate gender in the corresponding column with an "X". Please be sure to indicate the inviting party and the duration of the stay as stated on your current visa.
Question: What should be done with a migration card?
Answer: The migration card and passport with visa are handed over to a migration control officer for checking and further endorsement. Section A is taken by the migration official and section В is given back to you. The stamp date is considered the first day of your stay in Russia. Make sure that it is legible. Make sure the dates indicated under ‘Duration of stay’ coincide with the period of stay indicated in your visa.
It is important that you should underline "Работа/Employment" for ‘Purpose of travel’ (in case you are employed by HSE). If another purpose is indicated, you will have to go back to the border to get a new migration card with the correct purpose of visit indicated. For other purposes, indicate the relevant purpose.
A migration card must be carefully kept throughout the duration of your stay in Russia and is given back upon departure. Most importantly, per your employment agreement, you shall submit a copy of the migration card to your coordinator at the Faculty and Student Support Office immediately upon your arrival to HSE-Perm, which is in line with the current requirements of the migration control and tax authorities.
Question: What happens if I lose my migration card?
Answer: You should inform your coordinator at the Faculty and Student Support Office immediately who will then report that to the local Police and the Federal Migration Service Office where your visa was registered.
Also you will have to provide your passport and registration coupon to the Migration Service for the latter to issue a duplicate migration card, which is free of charge. We advise you keep copies of your migration card, passport, visa and registration coupon in your files in addition to the originals. After your migration card is re-issued, please mind that you should send legible scans of the documents to firstname.lastname@example.org for a new registration.
