HSE-Perm Library

The Library at the HSE Perm campus started forming its collections in 1998, with international classics of economics serving as its foundation. Today the library's holdings number roughly 70,000 items, including about 6,000 copies of foreign publications and 140 periodical titles. The Library's collection of e-papers, which includes full-text versions, is constantly growing. The collection offers a great variety of electronic resources, including e-books and journals, databases of peer-reviewed literature, patents, business data and other data collections. The library serves approximately 2,500 readers annually.

Since 2000, the library has maintained an electronic catalogue in the automated library information system LiberMedia. The catalogue, which can be accessed via the internet, includes the library's entire holdings: books, periodicals and articles from them, and electronic and audiovisual media. Nine highly credentialed librarians are available for consultation. The library also has three photocopy machines available for reader use.

You can browse the library resources using the HSE Library eCatalogue or have a look at the list of major electronic resources available to HSE-Perm students and faculty.

How do I register?

To register at the library, please show your HSE-Perm entrance pass, passport, and a copy of the 1st page of your employment agreement to a library manager at the Central Library, Room 106, 38 Studencheskaya Ulitsa. Your coordinator will help you register at the library. When you receive your library card, you will be granted remote access to HSE Electronic Resources.

E-Resources in Our Subscription

The library subscribes to a number of paid internet sites offering e-resources for research and education that are of high quality and recognized by the academic community. For example, the HSE’s e-subscription includes websites of leading academic publishers such as Oxford University Press, Cambridge University Press, Springer, Taylor & Francis, and Elsevier, in which full-text versions of some journals and books are published.

The HSE makes available over 40 information resources in both Russian and English. These include journal collections (thousands of international and Russian publications) and books, encyclopedias and dictionaries, statistical and business databases, collections of theses, and other types of materials. Since the HSE subscription is available at all campuses, students and staff of the HSE’s campus in Perm have access to the ‘cream of the crop’ of global academic thought, allowing them to study, teach, and conduct research in accordance with international standards.

What if I cannot find the book I need?

The HSE-Perm Library accepts orders to purchase books required for research and teaching.

To order books, please refer to the Faculty and Student Support Office for help to complete the application form, have the application signed by the head of your department, send a scanned copy of the approved form by email to HSE-Perm Library Head Nadezhda Alova, at nalova@hse.ru and bring the application form to Nadezhda Alova in person.

Within a week or two, you will receive a response concerning the possibility and timing of purchasing the ordered books. The procedure to purchase books generally takes up to several months, so it is recommended to plan orders in advance.

Can I be reimbursed if I buy books on my own?

HSE tenure-track faculty members may use their Research Fund to purchase research materials such as books. If the HSE Library is unable to provide the necessary literature for your research work or teaching, and you have an opportunity to buy books yourself, you may use your Research Fund to cover the expenses. Please keep in mind that purchases using the research fund should be approved in advance rather than after the fact.
