WCA Conference Took Place in Bishkek

The 2017 Biennial World Communication Association conference took place from 2nd to 6th of August in the American University of Central Asia (Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan). HSE-Perm was represented by academics from the School of Foreign Languages.

Professor Tatyana Permyakova, Associate Professors Elena Smolianina and Irina Morozova presented their papers at international conference “World Conflicts and Disasters: Communication, Culture and Resolution” organized by the World Communication Association.

Communication and culture researchers from more than 30 countries and 5 continents took part in the conference. Elena Smolianina and Tatyana Permyakova spoke at the session “Linguistics and communication”. Their papers were devoted to national and cultural patterns in sports and tourism.

The conference jury awarded a prize for the best presentation to Irina Morozova with the paper “Specificity of scientific political metaphor (A case study of A.J. Gregor’s “The roots of revolutionary ideology”)”. This is a linguistic analysis of a political metaphor.

We liked the conference very much, because it was carried out by communication professionals who know how to organize the communication between people from different cultures and countries.

The conference gave us an opportunity to talk with colleagues and to discuss some topics face to face. Plenary sessions were often accompanied by discussions which turned into debates on global problems.

On the whole, such conferences are very useful for Master’s and doctoral students because here they can find a world-known specialist or an expert, talk to him or to her, discuss their papers and receive comments. Besides, the World Communication Association has several journals where researchers can publish their works and represent their universities in the world's academia.

We congratulate Tatyana Permyakova and Elena Smolianina on successful presentation at the conference, and congratulate Irina Morozova on the award received!
